Today was one of those odd, unexpected days as an adult. Funny enough, I found myself feeling grateful for being sent to boarding school, as some of the skills I learned back then came to the rescue today.
Our electricity has been out due to a failed power line by Eskom, thankfully, it’s being fixed. But let me tell you, sleeping in darkness hits differently! The kids had to take cold showers, and dinner? Well, dinner was an adventure. Picture this: I made an omelet using three candles and a lighter. Yes, you read that right—cooking with candles!
I couldn’t help but give myself a little pat on the back for that one. Who knew those survival skills would pay off years later? Sure, I could have ordered some food, but honestly, I didn’t feel like it. So, I handled it the old-fashioned way, and I’m feeling pretty proud of myself for making it work.
If the situation does not change, i will gladly pack my things and "ooooof" myself and the minions to an airBnB.
And to the absolute love of my life, who despite being miles away was worrying about me, thank you. I appreciate your concern, even though we both know worrying doesn’t change the situation. Your support means the world to me.
Have you ever been in a situation where skills you leant in boarding school came into good use?
